Additional Info. Son of John James and Mrs Blanche Tait of Dunshelt, Fife.
Brother Kennedy was also killed on active service (RAFVR).

The Perseus sailed from Malta for Alexandria on 26 November 1941
with instructions to patrol waters to the east of Greece during her passage.
She apparently torpedoed a ship on 3 December but at 10 pm on 6 December struck an Italian mine off Cephalonia, 7 miles (11 km) north of Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea.

Cemetery/Memorial: Bergen-Op-Zoom War Cemetery, Bergen, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
Grave Reference: 32. C. 2 (Coll.).

Additional Info. Son of John James and Mrs Blanche Tait of Dunshelt, Fife. His brother Joseph also died on active service.

His headstone in the Netherlands also reads 'His brother Joseph; Lietenant R.N.R. Age 28 Was lost 19-12-1941 on H.M. Submarine ""Perseus"".

On 9 May 1941 Wellington R1226 crashed at Breezand, Anna Paulowna (Province of North Holland). Target: Hamburg/Bremen/Kiel/Emden/Berlin.

The aircraft crashed at 02:48 hrs (local time) having been shot down by a German nightfighter of Oblt. Zur Lippe und Uffz. Renette, and landed in the fields of the Homan company (tulip breeders).
All crew were buried in one grave at Den Helder, Huisduinen cemetery.
After the war the crew was reinterred at Bergen op Zoom grave no. 32 C.2

HMS Cullist was torpedo by a German U-boat (U-97) in the Irish Sea, 43 of the crew were killed, 2 taken prisoner."

HT ""Arcadian"" was torpedoed and sunk on 15 April 1917, 41.5 kilometres north east from the island of Milo (Melos), carrying reinforcements for Egypt.

Family headstone gives Pte. Williams age as 36, 1911 Census gives his age as 32, CWGC has 45.
