Can't find the first one, but you can probably narrow it down to about half a dozen candidates.

It might be worth checking out this man

Name: INNES, ALEXANDER
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private

Unit Text: 1st Bn.
Date of Death: 14/12/1914

According to SNWM, he was born in Glasgow. His obit was published in the Glasgow Evening Times, 6 Mar 1915, page 3 (with portrait)

The only other Alexander Innes in the Glasgow Evening Times Roll of Honour was aged 42 at time of death.

You can download the index to the Evening Times Roll of Honour here http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/08C30067-B12D-4D5F-882C-87BB56C87332/0/1207EveningTimesRollofHonour.xls

The Robert Kilpatrick you have identified is shown on SNWM as born in Glasgow. There is no Robert Kilpatrick on the Evening Times Roll of Honour. I have seen at least 3 instances where the date of death on the gravestone is wrong by exactly one year, most commonly where there is several years before the next family death and it was presumably added a that time. Therefore I would be reasonably confident that this was the right man.

Cheers Paul!

I find half the time it's a case of 'it's got to be him' and yet other times I find myself doubting stuff especially when there's half a dozen people who it 'might be'.

I don't know why I can never find anybody of the SNWM - I must be doing something wrong (surprise, surprise!!)

Anyway, I'll keep going and I know there's always someone on here who'll help me out.

Thanks again!

Anne

I'll try and look up the Evening Times man next time I'm at the Mitchell. I'm not sure when that'll be though, so don't hold your breath...

One thing I have found about SNWM search is that it is sensitive to trailing blanks. If you search for surname McCulloch then you will find all the McCullochs, but if you add a space on the end, you won't find any. Same applies to initials.

I think this is your man, from SNWM

Surname MORRISON
Firstname James
Service Number 650970
Date Death 30/11/1917
Decoration
Place of birth Glasgow
Other (T.F.).
SNWM roll ROYAL HORSE AND ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY
Rank Gnr
Theatre of death F.& F.

Bit of a mystery though, there is no-one with this service number on CWGC and I cannot find him there at all.

Only thing I can think of is Territorial Forces.

He is not listed on the Glasgow Evening Times Roll of Honour

I cannot find them anywhere, with any spelling of surname, even in the 1901 census. Got any more info on the parents? Dates of birth, death, age etc?
