Could anyone who has located the burial of a Victoria Cross holder in Scotland please let me know?

I'm starting a mini-project on VC burials in Scotland and would like to get a photo of the grave for each man.

This is just the burials in Scotland. Family graves which mention a VC but the man is not buried there will also be of interest, but primarily it's the burials of the men themselves.

Thanks,

David

I take it you know about the site http://www.victoria-cross.co.uk/?

The following posts come to mind:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2297&mforum=warmemscot

this is a Scottish memorial but I photographed the grave in Basingstoke http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1870&mforum=warmemscot

there was an article in the Sunday post in about Jan 2007 on Scottish VC winners, I might have a copy somewhere if you want me to look?

of course there are plenty of memorials to VC winners on our other forum but I presume you are not interested in those.

At the moment I'm only interested in the graves of VC holders who are actually buried in Scotland.

I have two, William Angus (buried in Carluke) and another in Bothwellpark Cemetery (still to be posted here).

At the moment I'm looking for photographs of the graves. What I'll be looking for at a later date is the location of the grave within the cemetery. That will requrie me finding a map of the cemetery so if that can be provided as well that would be good.

I think the memorial to John Simpson (first link above) might be his grave as well, but perhaps that is elsewhere in the same churchyard, Mark would know.

Dave,

There are 2 VC winners buried in Elgin:

Admiral Sir Martin Eric Dunbar-Nasmith; RN (VC won in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey in 1915) and Lt William Rennie; 90th Perthshire Light Infantry (VC won at Lucknow, India in 1857).

I have been unable to find the grave of Rennie.

Roxy

Ghostwhisperer

Donald McIntyre, VC hasn't been posted in the Rosemarkie thread yet but other headstones have. Are there more to post or is just an oversight?

Cheers

Adam

As discussed in the War memorial forum today, where I have found a reference to a Victoria Cross holder I have added the text 'VictoriaCross' in the subject line of a post within the thread.

Ghostwhisperer, I see you've already done a couple already today, I've changed them to VictoriaCross.

Thanks

Adam
