Well here is a Murray from Dundee (only 12 miles from Carnoustie) and with the same date of death. No other evidence that it is the right man though.

Name: MURRAY, PETER

Rank: Signalman
Regiment/Service: Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: H.M.S. Rhododendron.
Date of Death: 03/05/1941

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 61, Column 1.
Memorial: PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL

He's a possibility, as no F. Murray's appear on either the Barry War Memorial or nearby Dundee Roll of Honour?

Maybe his middle name was Peter? I had a few in the CWGC with first names missing and middle names used as their first name.
